A
Message from the Executive Director's Desk
In the summer of 2005, a six year old came with
his grandmother to our grandparent-kids camp for
4 days and 3 nights. After spending just 4 days
at camp, grandma says that when he was playing
on the floor or riding along in the car she
would hear him singing the songs he learned at
camp. And he talked about God, asked questions,
and insisted on praying before meals and bedtime
(our summer theme was “Party!). Your camps
touched that 6 year olds’ heart and faith is
growing.
He could hardly wait to come back last
summer, but as camp got closer I learned that
financial problems due to an unexpected job loss
meant he and grandma weren’t going to be able to
come—that is until I found out about it. Because of
the financial support of our partners in ministry I
made sure they came. (We do not turn any child away
for financial reasons.) A couple weeks ago, I
arrived at my office and found a cross this boy had
been working on to give me since last August. On
the back he wrote, “Thank you, Rev. Harrison.
Summer 2006 Grandparents camp.” His dad wants him
to go to a different camp this summer, but he wants
to go to Bible camp with grandma, too. And next
year, he says he’ll try a week by himself. Seeds
have been planted and Faith is growing!
This story illustrates two important
points of this ministry—the importance of camp in
the lives of kids of all ages, and the importance of
the financial support we receive that lets me tell
parents and grandparents that, “yes, we have
financial assistance available” when the questions
come.
The seeds that will be planted this
summer will bear fruit for many years to come. Most
of the time we don’t even know the impact this
ministry has had upon kids lives. But just this
week I heard of an adult who shared how important a
gift of a week at one of our camps from some friends
in her church was during a difficult part of her
life back in 1987!
Camp
makes a difference in many people’s journey in faith
and in life. Thank you for being a part of this
ministry.
See you at Camp!
