As promised, here is a group of young adults serving at Pine Lake this summer! Can you even wait to see these happy faces in person at camp this summer? I mean, you have to wait, but can you?? It's too exciting. We can't wait either!
Anna, Adventure/Initiatives Coordinator
No, we aren't getting a camp farmer this summer...we're getting Anna, the adventure/initiatives coordinator! Last year she amped up our excitement about arts and crafts and this year she will be getting us out on the low ropes course! When Anna is not in class, she volunteers, goes to campus ministry gatherings, and hikes! Her dream job would be to be a photographer for National Geographic, but if she can't find the proper camera, she plans to be a counselor at a university. A fun fact about Anna is that she has a birthmark on her forehead that is shaped like a T-Rex's head; she named him Snaggle. Let's hear it for Anna!
Rebecca, Cabin Leader
You may recognize Rebecca as a former camper, or if you are big into literature and speech, you may recognize her as Pennsylvania's Speech League Champion from 2015, a title that she won for her oral interpretation of poetry! When she's not in front of an audience translating Poe or Shakespeare for us less poetic folks, she crochets, does zumba, and studies biochemistry. Rebecca says that if becoming a dentist isn't in God's plan for her life, her secret plan is to move to New Zealand and run an alpaca farm! Until then, she's excited to work at camp as a cabin leader where she'll be helping other girls grow...not to mention she'll see plenty of her favorite woodland creatures, chipmunks!
Noah, Cabin Leader
This is Noah, our first male cabin leader to join the team for this summer! (Cue Boogey Shoes by KC & the Sunshine Band) During the school year, Noah hikes, watches movies, and lays down beats on his trombone. This guy literally encompasses the idea of dead bones coming to life (like us, in Christ) as he has a cadaver's bone replacing his femur, which he broke back in middle school. His dream job involves shrinking himself down and riding around on gophers, ensuring that the tunnels are safe for his furry friends. This goofball is excited to return to what he calls his second home, Pine Lake!
Abby, Ministry Specialist
Give some love to a camp friend, Abby! Though Abby paints, does yoga, and self-soothes by playing guitar, she is also quite an outdoorsy adventurist! She loves getting her hands dirty, especially when it involves campfires and the lake. Outside of camp, Abby had the opportunity to be a part of a field study that tracked porcupines on a wildlife reserve! This summer we may be able to make a dream of hers (running an ice cream boat) come true on a small scale, but she'll be spending most of her time helping prepare worships and devotions, and nurturing the faith life of our staff as the Ministry Specialist!
This is Nick! Nick loves camp. We know Nick loves camp because he's been coming to camp for 17 years and is currently serving as one of our Servant Leader Interns. Over the course of those many years at camp, he learned about his love for nature -- one time he even rode a deer! For the past four summers, he has rocked serving as a cabin leader but this year he is trying something new: Nick will be our naturalist! With a vast amount of knowledge and a love for things like archery and edible nature, we know you'll love learning about how neat nature is from Nick.
Megan, Program Assistant
This is Megan, one of our Program Assistants! Megan is a nursing student who plays trumpet, loves going to coffee shops, and enjoys doing any sort of water activities. If Megan could make up a job, she would become a professional freshly baked cookie taste tester. While she loves working with kids, like she did last summer as a cabin leader, when it comes to a career, Megan can see herself working as a geriatric nurse in the future! I guess kids come in all ages! We can't wait for you to meet Megan!
Molly, Program Assistant
She teaches us how to smile in the craziness...she knows some American Sign Language...she will dance to anything, even silence...this is Molly! Molly has been a camper since it was physically possible for her and will be returning to the team this summer as a Program Assistant! If offered the job, Molly would enthusiastically accept a position as a transfiguration professor at Hogwarts. Until that magic happens, she'll dance, do yoga, and cook tasty food. Welcome back, Molly!
Reilly, Arts & Crafts Director
This is Reilly! She's been a camper and a cabin leader at Pine Lake but this year she will be serving as our arts and crafts director! During the school year, she learns about industrial engineering, watches movies, and swims in ice cream! Er, maybe she just eats a lot of it. She does love swimming though which is good considering she is a lifeguard too! She loves Broadway musicals and would love being a Disney princess, but says that engineering is more of her call. We can't wait to see what Reilly plans for crafts this summer!
Sarah, Cabin Leader
Sarah has quite a history with camp and she's excited to continue the journey! After 11 years of being a camper and one year on summer staff, she will be returning as a cabin leader! As a self-taught guitar player and fan of swimming, Sarah fits right in at camp. Sarah's dream job is to work alongside Joanna and Chip Gaines on HGTV but until then, she spends her time snowboarding, hiking, and working at a daycare! Welcome back, Sarah!
Aaron, Cabin Leader
Aaron (more commonly known as "Polar Bear") has been a camper for 12 years but this summer is joining our staff as a cabin leader! Standing at 6'10", we're sure campers will really look up to him! Aaron loves playing the trumpet and cooking! In the fall, he plans to go to culinary school and his dream job is to be a foodie who is paid to travel around and try unique foods. Welcome, Polar Bear!
Jenn, Head Cook
From stir fry to soup, Jenn shows her love through her recipes. This will be her third summer as our cook but she's been around camp for many years! When she's not preparing meals or dancing around the kitchen to One Direction, she enjoys getting outside to swim, bike, or lead worship. Maybe this summer she'll even incorporate her new ukulele into the camp songs!
Sulibeth, Cabin Leader
A new addition to our camp family is Sulibeth! Sulibeth is a resident assistant on her campus, where she also runs track and field. She has worked at Disney and SeaWorld for the past few summers but is looking forward to spending time with youth this season! In addition to having a passion for working with kids, Sulibeth cares about helping those in need; a dream job of hers would be to create a business in her hometown (in Florida) that could benefit people who are homeless. Last, Sulibeth love salsa dancing -- maybe she'll teach us some moves this summer! Welcome, Sulibeth!
Julie, Kitchen Assistant
If you remember delicious bread sticks from last summer, you'll be excited to know that the baker of such bread is returning for another summer in the kitchen! Welcome back, Julie! In addition to baking and camp, Julie loves listening to One Direction to keep her spirits high. Something interesting about Julie is that her favorite pizza topping is pineapple!
George, Rahab, and Makena
Say hello to George, Rahab, and Makena! Rahab (right) and Makena (middle) have experienced quite a few "firsts" in the past year: being on a plane, playing in the snow, and soon, working at camp! George worked for Crossways during the summer of 2015 and loved meeting new people and learning from children along the way...now his whole family will be a part of that! They love biking and singing (with the church choir or "If You're Happy and You Know It" depending on who we're talking about). They're excited to be a part of the Pine Lake community and learning what God has in store for them through devotions and prayers.
Averie, Cabin Leader
Can you drink a cup of water without using your hands? Averie can! The wonderful Averie will be returning to camp as a cabin leader! She's been coming to camp since she was in first grade and this will be her third summer on staff! She is excited to work with the high school ladies and sing "I'll Do My Best," her favorite camp song, once she returns from student teaching in Arizona!
Emily, Cabin Leader
Camp can be like a second family for some, and for other folks, it consists of their real family too! Joining her sister Megan this summer is Emily! This previous Pine Lake camper will be a cabin leader come June where she'll be able to live into her love for hikes, crafting, and "Love Round"! Someday Emily hopes to own a jewelry studio where she can sell some of her own pieces, but for now she's enjoying the nursing program at her school and spending time with friends.
Jenny, Cabin Leader
Welcome to Jenny, a first-year staff cabin leader at Pine Lake. Jenny is a nursing student who volunteers on her church's spiritual team, plays volleyball, and is in her school's musical. A fan of Disney, Jenny has seen the movie, Tangled, 72 times! While her memories of being at camp back in 7th and 8th grade is what brought her to apply, Jenny is most excited about being outside and learning about Jesus all summer long!
Lars, Waterfront Coordinator
Sometimes folks who have worked at camp in bits and pieces decide they want a full summer of with us, which is how we got Lars for our team! Lars is a Wisconsin Badger and has one year of school left before he breaks out into the world where we know he'll help many! As for this summer, Lars will be serving as our Waterfront Coordinator, which is especially fitting because his favorite thing to do outside in summer is swim! Additionally, Lars likes sports, is left-handed, and is looking forward to camp-style worship through singing Sanctuary or Shake Another Hand!
